I'm in my bedroom. The ceiling fan just isn't going fast enough. My stomach is screaming profanities at me. I am near exhaustion. And I am trying to avoid all of these things while packing for a weekend in Manhattan. I am dirty.
I cannot ignore that.
I am a HUGE health and beauty products connoisseur. I love natural ingredients--herbs, flowers, and fruits, and I use aromatherapies until my olfactory nerves achieve orgasm.
I look at the clock; 9:30pm. No doubt that it is "Steph time." I grab my new packet of Spa Recipes Calming Mineral Bath in Lavender and Juniper (Kmart, $2) and I head to the bathroom to run a deliciously warm bath. I ravenously tear open the packet and pour it all under the mini waterfall protruding from the tile wall.
I gleefully stand there watching the water take on a blue-green tint. The color alone makes me feel cleaner. I watch the bubbles spread throughout the tub and the smell immediately relaxes me. Christmas? Gingerbread cookies? Fall leaves? I can't tell exactly. Lavender and Juniper combined creates such an unexplainable scent. It is rich and calming. I change into my birthday suit and test the water with my right big toe. We're good. I get in.
Complete bliss. I soak. I bask.
In hopes of immersing myself completely in calming oily goodness, I turn, and, like a whale, I get water over the side of the tub. Ugh. I am so ruining the moment. I turn back around. I lie on my back staring at the ceiling. I cross my hands over my boobs but then feeling as though I was in a coffin, I put them at my sides. I close my eyes. I think to myself, "Steph! Just relax! You freak." What's good about my inner voice is that it's almost threatening. I had no choice but to listen. I inhaled through my nose and exhaled through my mouth. I did this a few times to clear my head. I let all the dirt and thoughts and dirty thoughts of the day get sucked down the drain while the water embraced me and the bubbles, like tiny glaciers, free-form on my body.
It didn't end there.
No bath experience is complete without Grassroots Body Liquid Alarm Clock (Kohl's $12.50) and a natural sea sponge. A glorious combination of mint, green tea, and mate herbal tea, this shower gel is incredibly refreshing and uplifting. You MUST check it out. You will absolutely enjoy waking up or winding down with it. As far as Kohl's new motto goes, you CAN expect great things!
P.S. The best part of using Grassroots is that their formulas do not contain animal ingredients, artifical colors or fragrances, and they do not do animal testing! Yay!
Another underrated product I have found to be somewhat of a miracle worker is Crabtree & Evelyn's Jojoba Oil Shampoo and Conditioner and/or Crabtree & Evelyn's Aloe Vera Shampoo and Conditioner (C & E, $10 each). I had never been in a Crabtree and Evelyn store until a shopping spree binge after an extremely dull visit to Shakespeare's cottage. I had to make the visit to Stratford- Upon- Avon worthwhile and I couldn't have purchased a more amazing product. The clean perfume-like scent is enough to make you buy it, but what the 8.5 FL OZ will do is another story. Imagine a straightener, smoothing serum, detangler, and shine spray ALL IN ONE. Yea, I know. That's what I said.
So there I am in the tub. A prune. I smell fabulous. I feel rejuvinated, calm, and collective. It had to have been at least 10:25pm and I still had a long night to face of packing and choosing city chic outfits.
The point is: relax. Take some time out for yourself, like I did, no matter what you are doing and enjoy YOU.
