Now that we are nearly halfway into the semester, life can get a bit hectic. From classes, tests, jobs, extracurricular activities and not to mention a social life, we are multitasking more than ever. Here are the five essentials that every busy girl needs.

Flats: If your job requires you to be dressed up all day, your feet can really suffer from running around in heels all day. Carrying a pair of flats in your bag can be a lifesaver after a long day at work. If you don't have to wear heels, flats are the perfect shoes for work—comfortable and chic.

The Gap usually has cute ballet flats in the store for $40. If you are looking for something a little more fashionable, check out Piperlime, Gap's online shoe store. Stylist Rachel Zoe helped to make some of the selections and marked her favorite ones. Zoe's pick for flats are the Bernado Brad ballet flats. At $130, they seem a but pricey for flats, but they are 100% leather. In patent leather they come in leopard, red and black. In glover leather they are available in pewter and bronze.

Caffeine: With all the activities and appointments in your life, sleep can sometimes be very low on the list of priorities. While nothing beats a good night's sleep, caffeine is the next best thing. If you are sick of coffee, Red Bull and Diet Coke, try the Vitamin Water energy drinks. A friend recently introduced me to them and they come in a variety of flavors.

For those of you who are looking for something different from an energy drink, try Foosh mints. One of these mints is equivalent to one cup of coffee. In their tiny tin, they take up no space in your bag and they cost less than a venti latte from Starbucks.

Cosmetic Bag: Don't carry around all your makeup with you, but just the essentials. Being on the go all the time, I think it's always good to have the basics.: a travel-sized deodorant, breath mints, Shout wipes, small sample of your favorite perfume, Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets, Chapstick, and your one essential makeup item (concealer, eyeliner, etc.).

Since you don't want to fish through your bags for these items, get a small bag to put them in. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and you can help make a difference. This Michael Kors bag is the perfect fit. It is super cute and 5% of the proceeds from your purchase will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Appointment Book: To keep track of all your commitments and appointments, get yourself a planner. I know I never leave the house without mine. It is the most sensible accessory.

For those looking to splurge, Coach has a variety of planners in all different kinds of prints. For bargain shoppers, Target has a good selection of planners for under $20. The one pictured is my personal favorite.

Bag: With all the running around we do in a day, a good-sized, durable bag is a necessity. This is the one item that is worth spending money on. While Target and H&M often have really cute bags, I find that they never last nearly as long as I would like. Longchamp makes the perfect bag. With a variety of colors and sizes, you are bound to find one that seems like it was created with you in mind.
