At this point in our lives, I’m sure we’ve all made the New Year’s Resolution to work out and eat healthier at least once. Well, it's October--have you kept that resolution from 10 months ago?

It’s not always an easy thing to do with the variety and availability of fast food combined with busy schedules. Sometimes eating that burger and or watching another episode of Grey’s Anatomy is so much more comfortable than getting off our butts and working ourselves into a sweat for something that could possible take months for us to see the results of.

Well, the way I look at it is, yeah, we’re young and busy and our metabolism is quite possibly burning the calories off before we can even see the effects of the burger, but if we don’t start working on living healthier lives now, do we REALLY think it’ll be easier to start in 5 to 10 years when our metabolism slows down and we start seeing the effects of aging of an unkempt body?

Are you with me now? Let me show you how to spice up your health and fitness routine for less than $500. These small purchases and ideas will help make living a healthy life easier for any schedule.

Mission Organization

The first step in upgrading your health and fitness routine is getting organized. You have to know exactly what you want to accomplish, so I suggest getting an efficient “Goal Book” or a fitness tracker.

FranklinCovey, a leader on organizational products offers a great (and cheap) Health & Fitness tracker for keeping track of weekly workouts & dining habits.

Compass Health & Fitness Tracker from FranklinCovey.com: $6

Once you have you goal book ready, the next step is to make a compact, portable workout space to fit in any living area. I suggest buying a yoga mat and a large portable box to store your workout supplies. By keeping everything in one place, you’ll be better able to find everything you need when you’re ready to work out and you can easily take your stuff with you, to the gym, to different rooms or wherever you need to go.

Standard Yoga Mat from Yoga.com: $22

ArtBin Easy View Lift-Out Tray from Target: $20

Total for Organizational supplies: $48

Subtotal: $48

The Basics

The next step to spicing up your health and fitness routine is to get the basics.

Two staples in my cabinets for my health: multivitamins and calcium chews. When it comes to vitamins, make sure you consult your physician on the exact elements you need. For me, a basic multi-vitamin is important and keeping up a extra supply of calcium is essential.

GNC Women’s Energy Vitapak Vitamins from GNC: $25

Viactiv Soft Calcium Chews Milk Chocolate from CVS : $9

Now, workout gear is a must in the journey to spicing up your health and fitness routine. May I suggest, small, easily transportable workout gear--these are often the less-expensive kind.

2 lb. Wrist/Ankle Weight pair from Target: $12

What I like about this Empower Dumbbell set is that it comes with a variety of dumbbells of different weights, great for advancing from a beginner’s workout without buying new weights.

Empower 32-Lb Dumbbell Set from Target: $50

Getting pumped yet? Try a little Uma Thurman inspiration (a la Kill Bill) to help get you ready to workout with a fresh pair of Puma sneakers. These ultra comfy shoes fit your feet like gloves and are perfect for running and other activities. Plus they come in a variety of colors.

Speed Cat SD US Women’s from Puma: $75

The last necessity everyone needs is a sturdy re-usable water bottle.

Nathan 22 oz. Hydration Bottle: $6

Total for the Basics: $175

Subtotal: $223

A Touch of Bling

Talk about instant gratification. Add a couple of these items and your new health and fitness routine is sure to bling.

BEBE has an ultra-cute line of fabulous workout gear. To provide a little extra motivation for working out, may I suggest a sporty little outfit? Trust me, for these prices, you will definitely bling.

BBSP Asymmetrical Racerback Tank from BEBE: $50

BBSP Asymmetrical Metallic Waistband Pant from BEBE: $80

Another great motivation for healthy living is, making it easier to cook healthy and delicious meals. The 2 best things every kitchen needs to help force that healthy eating habit are:

A George Foreman Grill: You gotta love it, I can quickly cook, fish, chicken or soy-burgers, minus the greasy fat.

George Foreman Next Grilleration Grill with Removable Plates from Target: $50

A blender/food processor: This handy little 2-in-1 can make everything from smoothies to salsa.

Oster Combi Blender from Target: $40

Total for “Bling” Supplies: $220

GRAND TOTAL: $ 445

Wow. With $55 to spare, you can totally afford to get Grey’s Anatomy Season III on DVD to watch between workouts.
