Tamagotchis. Afros. Parachute pants. All are trends that have dominated American culture for a brief, what was I thinking? period of time. Now prepare for the newest trend: iPod domination.
Everywhere you look, from urban environments to the suburbs, people walk by in droves with the familiar white headphones hanging from their ears and music pouring from a small white box attached at their hips. With its futuristic look and elevated price tag, the iPod has become a 'must' for people who want to merge their favorite tunes with a new level of convenience. iPods can store thousands of songs, and the accompanying iTunes program makes it easy for people to buy songs from online music stores or burn them from cds to store in their iPod libraries.
With this new innovation, it is almost impossible to fathom the freedom and variety of personal iPod libraries around the country. To get an idea, I conducted an unofficial survey, asking five college students from around the country, "What's on your iPod?"
