Diploma Diaries: Working Relationship

Not every girl is born a Carrie Bradshaw in the realm of dating. Young professionals, myself included, live in the five-year plan mindset, leaving little to no room to account for their own Mr. Big.

With the pressures of finding a job right fresh from graduation, we are now forced to sow oats early or risk the trials and tribulations of the dating scene post-grad style. But all is not lost! Learning how to live and love in post-grad world is becoming easier than applying for a job.

The Media Maven: Finding a Husband in College

When I was in college, I would often heard girls jokingly say, “I’m giving up on my major and am just going to get my MRS degree.”

Hardly any of them meant what they said, but I’m sure there are quite a few girls out there that would jump at the chance to be whisked off their feet by a rich, smart, handsome man and be taken care of for the rest of their lives.

However, especially in this age of "girl power," many of us strong-willed ladies intend to finish college with a degree in something we are passionate about and then, in turn, obtain a full-time job doing something we love with that degree we all worked so hard for.

The Media Maven: Avoiding Catfishing 101

When I first heard of the new MTV series “Catfish” a few months back, I would have never guessed it would be a show about online dating. I’ve only heard the term used in two ways: one most commonly for cooking the actual fish, but the other is when my mother sometimes uses it to describe something as “ugly” or “out of style,” saying it was a popular term to use in the 1980s.

Nowadays, when most of us hear the term, we think of an online dating hoax or even Notre Dame Linebacker Manti Te’o. But what can we learn from our predecessors?

The Single College Girl’s Guide to Surviving Valentine’s Day

This past weekend, I was standing in line at the grocery store with a carton of milk in one hand and a box of cereal in the other when I overheard the following conversation ...

Girl #1: “On Thursday, I’m just going to sit on the couch all day with two tubs of ice cream.”

Girl #2: “Me too. I hate Valentine’s Day ... it’s like, Single’s Awareness Day.”

Two things hit me at once. The first was that Valentine’s Day was just a few days away and I had completely forgotten about it until now. The second was that there are girls out there who will spend most of their Thursday feeling sad and doing typical “Single on Valentine’s Day” activities.

College Dating: Does Being 'Facebook Official' Matter?

Dating in college is a very odd thing. It’s not the typical situation young adults are used to. We’re growing up and (hopefully) aren't playing the same mind games that we did in high school.

Also, in college, you are constantly with the person you are dating. Think about it: You go to class together; you live a hop, a skip and a jump away from each other; you go out on the weekends; and you’ll probably eat most of your meals together.

But there's an even bigger issue plaguing college couples nationwide ... Does it matter if you're "Facebook official?"
