What first sparked your interest in working in TV? #UChicU ChicI always knew I wanted to work in a creative field and taking courses in college helped steer me in the direction. #UChicJennifer McCombTV runs in my blood! My brother & uncle are comedy writers. I always looked up to them & wanted to become a storyteller. #UChicRandi GewirtzQ2 for everyone ... What was your favorite MTV show growing up? #UChicU ChicFor me, it's a split between Laguna Beach and The Hills. I wanted to be LC! #UChicU ChicProbably a music show like TRL or the dating show Next. #uchicAmanda Cross@UniversityChic Mine too! I wanted that Cali lifestyle and having my own TV show! #UChicAshley YenickHa, have to chime in on this: Beavis & Butthead! #UChicmtvUi was a SIngled Out fan! remember, Jenny McCarthy's first gig! #UchicJennifer McCombI always loved The Real World, especially the first few seasons...the start of reality tv! #UChicRandi GewirtzQ3 for @JenniferMcComb3 and @ran727 ... How did you get your foot in the door at MTV? #UChicU Chic@jennifermccomb3 and I were both interns @mtv. Best way to get your foot in the door! Amazing on-the-job experience & networking opp. #UChicRandi Gewirtz@ran727 @jennifermccomb3 @mtv i agree. Interning is a great way to get your foot in the door. #UChicLura@ran727 @JenniferMcComb3 Did you ever interview anyone cool as an Intern? #UChicAshley Yenick@Ashhyen - Yes! I worked on a show Artist Cut where artists talked about their videos. Aaliyah was my favorite -that was really cool. #UChicRandi Gewirtzi didn't really get to interview alot of celebs, but interned for TRL all the time and saw everyone in the halls, Fred Durst,BSB #UchicJennifer McCombQ4 for everyone ... Find a mentor! I had a wonderful one who taught me so much. #UChicRandi Gewirtz@AmandaJPCross best piece of career advice is to really try to network, make connections and build relationships #UchicJennifer McCombQ6: Since we're talking jobs, here's a question for everyone: What is your No. 1 piece of advice for finding an internship? #UChicU Chicthink about the companies you'd like to work for, research them, and see if they have listings for internships or jobs #UchicJennifer McCombi know students are also taking un-paid or no credit internships too, just to get their foot in the door to a company #UchicJennifer McComb@UniversityChic Find a site that hosts online ads for internships, LevoLeague has a safe site to major company internships! #UChicAshley YenickMy best advice for finding an internship is to be PROACTIVE. Nobody is going to find an internship for you! #UChicU Chic@JenniferMcComb3 @UniversityChic Definitely. Also, take advantage of your school's career center. They have lots of connections. #UChicRandi GewirtzblogTumbleTweet. Strategically put yourself out there. What is a common misconception about your job? #UChicU ChicEveryone thinks we meet celebs every day. Sometimes we do, & it’s awesome! But usually we’re sitting in dark, windowless edit rooms. #UChicRandi Gewirtzmost of my friends think we just sit around watching videos all day, but being in production is tougher than you think and long hours #UChicJennifer McComb@JenniferMcComb3 @ran727 What kinds of skills do you think are most important in a person who wants to intern for a tv station? #uchicAmanda Cross@AmandaJPCross alot of networks are now looking for interns/ producers who can not only write a script, but can edit and shoot #UChicJennifer McComb@AmandaJPCross learn as much as you can on Final Cut or picking up a camera, even just to have those skills on your resume #UChicJennifer McCombAny advice on how to get your foot in the door for an internship/job at MTV? @ran727 @JenniferMcComb3U ChicYou can also search for internships & jobs at @ViacomInterns.
