This fall, military jacket is your must-have fashion essential. It’s a versatile piece that can be easily dressed up or down, adding a touch of unique style to even the most basic t-shirt and jeans combo. Lucky for us gals living on a college budget, there are several fabulous options to be found this season at a price point less than $50!

My favorite is the “Bell Hop Blazer” from Forever21, a versatile jacket reasonably priced at $37.80. Available in a basic black with chrome buttons, it will match everything in your closet! The jacket is also made of a thick twill material that transitions well between seasons: Wear it now with a simple t-shirt, and then layer it with a sweater dress or hoodie for added warmth when the temperatures drop. Another great feature are the  zippers up the front, so you get the chic look of buttons without having to fumble with them as closures.

When on the hunt for your own military-inspired piece, look for jackets, blazers, and coats that reference elements of soldiers’ uniforms. These include double-breasted fronts, brass or anchor buttons, and strong structured shoulders. For more inspiration, check out the fall collections from top designers D&G and Balmain; both had beautiful military-inspired jackets with elegant detailing strut down the runways.
