Finding New Year's Bliss By Tossing Your Fall Semester Baggage
By Kelly Leslie, Student at San Francisco State University
The end of the semester is finally here, and aside from a month-long break from school, there is nothing better than the fresh start that follows.
Most of us see this as the perfect opportunity to redeem ourselves academically, but it is also a great time to ditch any fall semester baggage. Take a look at the things that have been holding you back from having the perfect collegiate experience and toss them out the door. Spring really will bring new beginnings if you do.
Have you been weighed down by boy problems this semester? If the relationship isn’t making you happy, it isn’t worth your time. Boyfriends who bring drama into your life can distract you from your schoolwork and keep you from having fun. It may be hard to ditch him at first, but letting go of a bad relationship will only make you a happier person in the long run.
Use this time to take a look at the people you have been hanging out with. If you are having trouble with your friends, it may be time to get some new ones. Don’t be afraid to ditch the mean friends along with the bad guys. Leaving school for the holidays is the best way to distance yourself from a bad friendship.
While you are away, don’t go the extra mile to talk to people who have held you back. Once the new semester begins, join a club that you find interesting. Becoming involved on campus is the best way to surround yourself with people who have the same interests as you, and it will keep you busy so you won’t have to find an excuse to escape the old crowd.
Are you afraid your grades from fall semester have taken you to the point of no return? It is never too late to work on your GPA. Don’t let bad grades from the fall semester take away your motivation. Try to figure out what was keeping you from doing your best and then move on. Focus on making changes rather than fretting about the classes you have already taken.
It may be easy to fall into bad habits, but don’t pick up the baggage that you left behind. Whether it is an ex-boyfriend, a mean friend or the horrible professor who made your semester miserable, let it be gone for good and enjoy your fresh start!
